Argument Essay #1

"SuperCorp recently moved its headquarters to Corporateville. The recent surge in the number of homeowners in Corporateville proves that Corporateville is a superior place to live than Middlesburg, the home of SuperCorp's current headquarters. Moreover, Middleburg is a predominately urban area and according to an employee survey, SuperCorp has determined that its workers prefer to live in an area that is not urban. Finally, Corporateville has lower taxes than Middlesburg, making it not only a safer place to work but also a cheaper one. Therefore, Supercorp clearly made the best decision."

The main reason behind the SuperCorp's decision to change its headquarters location to Corporateville seems to be the recent surge in the homeowners there and that is why, its a superior place to live. This decision is not, by far, beyond the light of suspicion. As a surge of people into any place does not account for its superiority in terms of living. There are ample of other factors that make for a place's superiority in lifestyle.

The other big reason for this shift that the argument states is that its employees, according to a survey, whose credibility is also not beyond questioning, have a predilection to not so urban places. But it fails to mention how much these employees like that particular place where they intend to move.

Other assumptions that the argument makes are one that Corporateville is safer and cheaper place to work only backing it on the fact that it has lower taxes than its former site. This premise, although remotely, could account for the cheapness of the city but is nowhere connected with the safety as they are entirely disparate things.

Therefore the decision that SuperCorp took, that is to change its headquarters, has so many loopholes thereby rendering this decision under the reasonable doubt and clearly proving it not one of the best of the decisions.
